The Miami-Dade County Office of the Tax Collector is proud to announce a major customer service milestone. Under the leadership of Honorable Dariel Fernandez, the once-notorious long lines outside the Miami-Central and Midway Crossings (Mall of the Americas) Tax Collector's Offices for driver license and identification card services are now a thing of the past.
“No more lines. No more waiting outside. This is what our community asked for—and we delivered,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “At the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office in the Midway Crossings Mall, we’re proud to say that today, the wait is over. This is what it means to serve the people with dignity and efficiency.”
This transformation was made possible thanks to strategic improvements in operations and technology, streamlining services, and addressing long-standing issues related to wait times and appointment availability.
Today, both the Miami-Central and Midway Crossings offices are serving between 600 and 800 customers daily, offering a full range of driver license and identification services—including new licenses, renewals, driving tests, and commercial driver licenses. Both locations now efficiently serve both appointments and walk-ins.
The reduction of waiting times its due in great part to Dariel Fernandez’s administration upgrades to the online appointment system, which expedites appointments for both, walk ins and online customers, faster and in a more efficient time allocation. Although walk-ins are still welcomed every day, customers are encouraged to visit mdctaxcollector.gov to make an appointment for any of the four Tax Collector offices currently offering driver license and ID services to get priority of customer service. To access the system, new users must create an account using an email address and a phone number, allowing them to select a preferred date and time for their visit.
“We’ve transformed the experience at these offices—faster service, more dignity, real results,” added Fernandez. “This is what happens when we listen to our community and act decisively.”
The Miami-Dade County Office of the Tax Collector is in the midst of a transition to assume full responsibility for all driver license services countywide. Currently, only four offices have been transferred to the Tax Collector’s administration, while approximately six offices continue to be operated by the State's Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle Division.
“This is just the beginning,” said Fernandez. “We remain committed to bringing these improvements to every office across the county as we complete the transition.”
The Miami-Dade County Office of the Tax Collector provides essential services including tax collection and driver license and identification services to residents across the county. The office is dedicated to delivering efficient, transparent, and customer-focused services that meet the needs of Miami-Dade residents.
