Miami-Dade Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez achieved a significant milestone in his mission to make government services more accessible to residents, after Coral Gables Mayor and City Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution pledging to collaborate in the identification of a property within its boundaries that can be further developed into a Tax Collector’s branch office.
“For too long, residents have had to come to us. This time, we will go to them,” said Fernandez publicly during the Coral Gables January 14 commission meeting. “Our mission is to ensure that every resident—especially seniors and individuals with disabilities—have easy access to the services they need without having to travel long distances.”
Coral Gables leaders emphasized the added value this collaboration will bring to its residents. The approved resolution underscores a commitment to ensure Coral Gables residents and its neighbors have convenient access to vital tax-related services, such as paying property taxes, local business taxes, vehicle registrations and more.
This initiative is part of Fernandez’s larger strategy to establish satellite offices across the County’s 34 incorporated cities, making government services more accessible to its more than 2.7 million residents. “I am deeply grateful to the City of Coral Gables for their leadership and collaboration on this important initiative,” said Fernandez. “This is an exciting opportunity to serve the Coral Gables community and its neighbors in a meaningful way. We look forward to working alongside Mayor Vince Lago and City Commissioners to make this vision a reality.”
The proposed satellite office in Coral Gables represents a significant step forward in Fernandez’s plans to decentralize services and reduce travel burdens for residents who currently must visit the only Tax Collector's Office, located in downtown Miami when transacting in-person businesses. By bringing services closer to residents' homes, Fernandez aims to improve the overall experience for taxpayers while fostering stronger connections between local governments and the communities they serve. Currently, the only physical location for in-person property tax payments is the main Tax Collector’s office, located at 200 NW 2nd Ave., Miami, FL 33128.
This partnership with Coral Gables is just the beginning for Fernandez, who will continue his outreach efforts to all incorporated cities in Miami-Dade to bring essential services closer to every community in the County.
