At the recent "Art Is Your Story!" Opening of Schools Professional Learning event held at the beautiful Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens, Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez had the honor of recognizing the exceptional teachers behind this year’s 2025 Kids Tag Art award-winning student artists.

The event celebrated not only the start of a new school year but also the vital role that arts education and creative instruction play in our classrooms.

“These incredible teachers guide and inspire our students every day,” said Tax Collector Fernandez. “Their dedication shapes futures, inspires dreams, and nurtures the creativity that makes our community brighter.”

Kids Tag Art is a statewide initiative that invites fifth grade students to design their own decorative Florida license plate tags. The designs are printed, displayed, and sold to raise funds for art supplies and classroom needs in public elementary schools. Top designs are awarded and recognized, giving students a chance to shine and schools the support they need.

In the most recent Kids Tag Art 2025 fundraising cycle, the Office of the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, under the leadership of Dariel Fernandez, raised over $20,000 through generous contributions from private sector partners and local entrepreneurs committed to supporting their community. These funds go directly toward strengthening art programs in Miami-Dade public schools.

By participating in this initiative, the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office reinforces its commitment to supporting the arts, fostering creativity, and promoting public education. This program highlights the impact of collaboration between local government and schools in keeping arts, music, and creative expression thriving for the next generation.

“We are proud to be part of a program that not only celebrates student creativity but also gives back directly to our public schools,” Fernandez added. “Together, we are creating space for children to express themselves and thrive.”

The next Kids Tag Art design submission period is scheduled for April 2026. Teachers and students across the county are encouraged to start preparing. Get those sketchbooks and crayons ready!
