Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez joined the Miami-Dade Solid Waste Department at the MDIA Waste Diversion Challenge Demonstration Day held at the South Dade Landfill, where county leaders, environmental professionals, and community partners gathered to explore practical solutions aimed at reducing waste and supporting a cleaner future for Miami-Dade County.

During the event, participants observed demonstrations showcasing new approaches to waste diversion and resource recovery. One of the featured projects was Fertile Earth Worm Farm’s composting pilot program, which highlighted how organic materials can be redirected from landfills and transformed into valuable resources that support the County’s long-term Zero Waste goals.

The demonstration provided an opportunity for attendees to see firsthand how public-private partnerships and environmental initiatives can contribute to reducing landfill dependency while encouraging responsible waste management practices throughout the community.

“Protecting our environment requires collaboration and a willingness to explore practical solutions,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “It was encouraging to see the work being done to support Miami-Dade County’s sustainability goals and create positive outcomes for future generations.”

Fernandez thanked Director Aneisha Daniel and the entire Miami-Dade Solid Waste Department team for hosting the event and for their continued leadership in developing programs that help address environmental challenges facing the community.

As Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, Fernandez supports efforts that bring together government agencies, community organizations, and industry leaders to identify solutions that improve quality of life and strengthen Miami-Dade County for future generations.

The Waste Diversion Challenge Demonstration Day highlighted the importance of education, collaboration, and innovation in advancing environmental goals while reinforcing Miami-Dade County’s commitment to responsible stewardship of its natural resources.
