Statement from the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez: Miami-Dade Office Dropped from Broward County Lawsuit
Today, the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector was dropped from a Broward County lawsuit that seeks $10 million in damages for alleged events that occurred outside of Miami-Dade and prior to my taking office. From the outset, it was clear that these claims were misplaced and should never have included the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector.
This outcome confirms what we have maintained from the beginning: the allegations at issue did not involve our operations. While our Motion to Dismiss was scheduled for hearing, the plaintiff’s decision to voluntarily drop our office underscores the lack of basis for keeping Miami-Dade in this case.
From the moment I took office, my focus has been clear; eliminate lines, modernize the appointment system, and deliver services to residents with efficiency, dignity, and respect. We have worked aggressively to reform outdated processes, implement smarter technology, and expand access so that no resident has to endure unnecessary delays to receive essential government services.
We will always defend the integrity of this office and safeguard the hard-earned tax dollars of Miami-Dade residents. We will not allow distractions or unfounded claims to divert us from the real work of reform and service. Our mission remains unchanged: modernize government, protect the public’s trust, and put the people of Miami-Dade County first.
We stand for accountability. We stand for responsible stewardship. And we will continue delivering results for our community every single day.
God bless our community, and God bless the United States of America.
Dariel Fernandez
