Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Launches Compliance Transparency Page Related to Cuba-Linked Business Records
(Miami-Dade, FL - February 9th 2026) The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office has launched a new Compliance Transparency Page to provide centralized public access to records it generated after months of work related to the Office’s statutory responsibilities under Florida law. This page is intended to ensure transparency and respond to frequent inquiries from members of the public, the media, elected officials, and governmental agencies.
“Our office has been reviewing Cuba-related business activity under our statutory authority since last year,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “In light of President Trump’s Executive Order addressing threats posed by the Cuban communist regime, and recent enforcement actions involving Cuba-related export licenses, serious compliance and national security concerns have been raised. While federal licensing decisions are outside our jurisdiction, we have a duty to ensure that businesses operating in Miami-Dade comply with applicable state and local law.”
This initiative follows heightened public interest and recent federal action, including Donald J. Trump’s January 29, 2026 Executive Order, Addressing Threats to the United States by the Government of Cuba, along with the accompanying national emergency declaration issued pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The Executive Order states that the policies and actions of the Government of Cuba pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States and directs federal agencies to intensify enforcement of Cuba-related restrictions.
The review conducted by the Tax Collector’s Office is limited in scope and governed strictly by state and local law. It applies only to the Office’s responsibilities concerning Local Business Tax Receipts under section 205.0532 of the Florida Statutes and applicable provisions of the Miami-Dade County Code. This review does not determine federal licensing status, sanctions compliance, or enforcement under federal law.
The Office of the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector remains committed to administering the law faithfully, maintaining an open public record, and carrying out its duties with consistency, integrity, and transparency.
