Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Condemns Racist and Antisemitic Messages Revealed in Group Chat
Racism, antisemitism, and hatred of any kind have no place in our community, in our institutions, or any political party. The messages revealed in this group chat are disgusting, unacceptable, and completely inconsistent with the values that define our community here in Miami-Dade County.
Miami-Dade County is one of the most diverse communities in the United States. We are a community of immigrants, families, entrepreneurs, people of different faiths, cultures, and backgrounds who live and work together every day. That diversity is not a weakness. It is our strength.
Language that dehumanizes people, promotes violence, or attacks others because of their race or religion is not politics. It is wrong. It is dangerous. And it must be rejected clearly and without hesitation.
As Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, I serve every resident of this county with respect and dignity.
Anyone who participates in or tolerates that kind of hateful rhetoric disqualifies themselves from leadership. Leadership is about character, accountability, and respect for the community we serve.
Our community deserves better. Miami-Dade County deserves leaders who unite people, not divide them.
I will always stand firmly against racism, antisemitism, and any form of discrimination. And I will always defend the values of respect, freedom, and dignity that define our community and our country.
Dariel Fernandez
Tax Collector
