Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Applauds Unanimous Committee Approval of Measure to Modernize Local Business Tax Compliance
I am encouraged by the unanimous approval of Agenda Item 1G1 by the Recreation, Tourism, and Resiliency Committee, sponsored by Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez. This important measure eliminates the outdated requirement that Local Business Tax receipts be physically displayed at a place of business and now moves forward for consideration by the full Board of County Commissioners.
As the office responsible for administering and enforcing the Local Business Tax, our team has already modernized compliance verification through secure, real-time electronic tools that allow inspectors to instantly confirm a business’s tax status without relying on paper receipts posted on a wall. This approach has become standard practice in the field and reflects a more efficient, technology-driven process.
Formally removing the physical display requirement aligns County Code with how compliance is already verified today while eliminating an unnecessary burden for business owners. Inspectors rely on electronic systems to confirm tax status and will continue verifying compliance through these digital tools rather than physical postings.
This effort is part of a broader commitment to modernize government services and reduce outdated administrative requirements. I commend Commissioner Bermudez for his leadership on this initiative and appreciate the Committee members for their unanimous support.
As this item advances to the full Board of County Commissioners, I respectfully encourage its approval so that our County Code reflects the modern, efficient systems already in place.
Modernizing government processes helps protect honest businesses, improve efficiency, and provide better service to our residents and business community.
God bless the residents of Miami-Dade County, and God bless the United States of America.
