Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Shares Updated Guidance on TPS for Venezuelan Nationals
The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office is informing residents of important new guidance from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) regarding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelan nationals.
Details from the technical advisory:
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the termination of Venezuela’s 2021 Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation.
Following a Supreme Court decision on October 3, 2025, the termination is now in immediate effect. TPSbeneficiaries who provide an approved EAD/I821 with an expiration date of October 2, 2026, are entitled to a credential valid until that date.
Additionally, TPSbeneficiaries whose TPS-related documents show expiration dates of September 9, 2022; March 10, 2024; April 2, 2025; or September 10, 2025, are entitled to a credential valid until April 2, 2026.
Those that do not meet the requirements listed in the ADT are not entitled to issuance or a 60-day permit.
Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez emphasized that his office will continue to follow all state directives and encourages residents to verify their documents before visiting any Tax Collector office for driver-license or motor-vehicle transactions.
“We understand that changes like this can cause confusion for families,” said Fernandez. “Our goal is to help residents understand the new requirements clearly and make sure everyone has the accurate information they need.”
