Today, Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez joined federal leaders and the families of the victims to honor the four heroes of Brothers to the Rescue who were murdered 30 years ago under the direct order of the Cuban communist and socialist dictatorship.

The solemn gathering brought together members of Congress, community leaders, and members of the Cuban exile community to remember the lives lost and reaffirm a shared demand for accountability. The event served not only as a tribute to the victims, but as a renewed call for justice decades after the attack that shocked the international community.

As Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, Fernandez stood alongside U.S. Senator Ashley Moody,  Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart , Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar , and Congressman Carlos Giménez , supporting their call for full accountability, including the indictment of Raúl Castro for his role in what leaders described as an act of terrorism.

“Justice delayed is not justice denied,” said Fernandez. “The Cuban people deserve truth, freedom, and the end of a regime that has caused decades of pain.”

For Miami-Dade County, the anniversary is not distant history. It is deeply personal. The county is home to one of the largest Cuban exile communities in the world, many of whom have lived the consequences of repression and political persecution firsthand. The commemoration underscored Miami-Dade’s ongoing commitment to standing with those who seek democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

Thirty years later, the memory of the four Brothers to the Rescue heroes remains a powerful reminder that freedom requires vigilance, and that the pursuit of justice continues.
