Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Commemorates Simón Bolívar and Las Américas Day in Miami Beach

Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez joined the City of Miami Beach, elected officials, and members of the Venezuelan community for the annual Simón Bolívar y Las Américas Day ceremony, honoring the life, leadership, and enduring legacy of El Libertador Simón Bolívar.

The gathering brought residents together to remember Bolívar’s historic struggle for independence and his vision of a hemisphere in which people could determine their own future. His leadership transformed the Americas and continues to inspire those who defend liberty, democracy, and human dignity.

“Simón Bolívar’s legacy reminds us that freedom is never guaranteed and must be defended by every generation,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “His fight for independence continues to inspire millions across our hemisphere, especially the Venezuelan people who still dream of living in a free and democratic country.”

Fernandez thanked Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner, Commissioner Alex Fernandez, the City of Miami Beach, and the Venezuelan community for preserving this important tradition and bringing residents together to honor the values that unite the Americas.

As Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, Fernandez reaffirmed his support for those who continue defending democracy and opposing authoritarianism throughout the hemisphere. He noted that Bolívar’s message remains especially meaningful at a time when millions of Venezuelans continue seeking freedom, justice, and the restoration of democratic government.

“The Venezuelan people deserve the opportunity to choose their leaders, live without fear, and build a future in their own country,” Fernandez added. “We must remain hopeful and continue standing with them until Venezuela is free once again.”

The ceremony served as both a tribute to one of the most consequential leaders in the history of the Americas and a renewed call to protect the freedoms for which Bolívar devoted his life.
