Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez recently attended the inauguration of the exhibition “Master of the Air, Builder of Dreams: Glenn Curtiss in South Florida” at Miami International Airport, a tribute to one of the pioneers whose vision helped shape the region’s growth and identity.

The exhibition highlights the legacy of Glenn Curtiss and his lasting impact on aviation and the development of South Florida. His contributions played a key role in the founding and growth of communities such as Miami Springs, Hialeah, and Opa-locka — all of which are now celebrating 100 years of history and progress.

“Aviation is part of the foundation of our community’s story,” Fernandez said. “Reflecting on that legacy reminds us how vision and determination can shape generations and guide the future.”

As Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, Fernandez emphasized the importance of supporting initiatives that honor local history while strengthening the future. The event served as a reminder that understanding the past is essential to building a stronger, more connected community moving forward.

Fernandez also expressed his appreciation to Mayor Walter Fajet, Miami Springs Councilman George Santin, and Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis for their leadership, as well as to Miami International Airport for bringing the exhibition to life.

The exhibition stands as both a celebration of South Florida’s aviation roots and a recognition of the individuals whose ideas and perseverance helped transform the region into what it is today.
