Statement From Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Regarding The Investigation Of Companies Linked To Vehicle Shipments To Cuba
Our office has received information related to at least three companies operating in South Florida that offer services to ship vehicles to Cuba, including Lucero Services Corp, OK’s Charter Services, Inc., and OK Import and Export Corp. According to multiple reports from residents, these companies allegedly charged thousands of dollars to ship vehicles that, weeks or even months later, have still not been delivered to their intended recipients.
The complaints we have received point to possible fraudulent practices, breach of contract, and operations that may be violating regulations applicable to the transportation and export of vehicles. This type of conduct will not be tolerated in Miami-Dade County.
My office is currently gathering information and is in contact with the appropriate authorities to determine whether these companies are complying with the laws that regulate this type of commercial activity.
Let me be clear: any business operating in Miami-Dade must do so within the framework of the law. Companies that fail to respond to affected consumers or address these serious concerns should expect increased scrutiny from local, state, and federal authorities responsible for consumer protection, export regulation, and law enforcement.
Additionally, our office is reviewing these companies’ compliance with the applicable requirements related to the Local Business Tax Receipt and, if necessary, may proceed with the revocation of that authorization in accordance with the law.
If the appropriate authorities determine that fraud, consumer deception, or any other illegal activity has occurred, we will fully support the regulatory and enforcement actions that follow.
God Bless Miami-Dade County, and God Bless the United States of America.
