Statement from Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez on Temporary Protected Status Guidance and Credentials for Haitian Nationals

(Miami-Dade, FL - February 18th, 2026) The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has issued updated guidance regarding credentials for beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status for Haiti.
As outlined in Technical Advisory DL 26-003, Certain Haitian TPS beneficiaries who present qualifying documentation, including eligible EAD categories and approved I-821 forms with specified expiration dates, remain eligible for services through March 15, 2026 Individuals seeking issuance beyond that date must provide alternative proof of lawful presence, consistent with the advisory.
The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office is assisting eligible individuals in full compliance with the official state directive. Residents are encouraged to review Technical Advisory DL 26-003 and consult the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website for the most current federal guidance regarding TPS eligibility and documentation requirements.
