Statement from Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez on HB 841 Advancing Toward Elimination of the Yellow Sticker Requirement
Today marks meaningful progress in modernizing Florida’s vehicle registration system. HB 841 has cleared its final House committee with a unanimous 21 to 0 vote, bringing us one step closer to eliminating the outdated yellow validation sticker and transitioning fully to electronic verification.
This legislation reflects how law enforcement already operates. Officers rely on real time electronic systems to verify registration status, making the physical sticker unnecessary. Eliminating the sticker requirement is projected to save the State of Florida approximately 24 million dollars annually, including millions of dollars right here in Miami-Dade County, while maintaining accountability and public safety. Drivers will still be required to carry proof of registration, and electronic verification tools will remain fully accessible to law enforcement agencies.
I commend Representative Tom Fabricio for his leadership in advancing this commonsense reform, and I thank the Florida House State Affairs Committee for its unanimous support. Our office was proud to provide public testimony in favor of this measure, alongside stakeholders including the Florida Automobile Dealers Association and our law enforcement partners.
As HB 841 moves to the full House for consideration, we remain committed to responsible modernization efforts that reduce unnecessary costs, improve efficiency, and better serve the people of Florida. We will continue putting people first because we are here to serve our community, not special interests.
