The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office is proud to announce the grand opening of the Miami-Central Office, marking a major milestone as the third fully operational Tax Collector office in the County. This historic unveiling aligns with the 100th day in office of the Honorable Dariel Fernandez, Miami-Dade County’s Tax Collector, and represents a significant leap forward in service accessibility and efficiency for residents.
“This is not just a driver license office anymore,” said Fernandez during a well-attended press conference featuring local and state elected officials, community leaders, and residents. “Today marks 100 days since we took office as the Office of Miami-Dade County Tax Collector — 100 days of listening, acting, and delivering real change for the people of this beautiful county.”
Previously operating as a DMV facility under the State of Florida, the newly transformed Miami-Central Office is now under the local leadership of Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. The office has undergone an extensive transformation focused on customer service, modernization, and operational capacity
The Miami-Central Office will now serve up to 800 customers daily, staffed with newly hired and trained personnel, and featuring 33 fully operational service windows dedicated to issuing driver licenses and ID cards. In addition, the office will now handle a full suite of Tax Collector services, including real estate tax payments, business tax receipts, and motor vehicle registrations.
As part of the celebration, U.S. Senator Rick Scott honored Tax Collector Fernandez with a special distinction recognizing his leadership and achievements. “Dedicated community leaders like you help make our state great and are crucial to Florida’s continued success,” said Senator Scott in his official statement.
In addition, U.S. Senator Ashley Moody also delivered a formal recognition to Fernandez, commending his vision for public service. “Your vision for delivering accessible services to the community is exactly what good government looks like,” said Senator Moody. The transformation is part of a broader modernization effort led by Fernandez to improve service delivery throughout the County. Additional achievements highlighted during the event include:
We returned over $40 million to local governments by waiving the 2% commission — putting those funds directly back into the communities that need them most. We updated old systems, ended unnecessary contracts, and used $2.5 million to make our services stronger.
"Our next step is to take over the Mall Las Américas office, where we plan to help more than 1,000 people every day — a big move that will grow our ability to serve the community. We are bringing the office to them. This is about making government easier, faster, and closer to the people." added Fernandez.
