Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Issues Statement In Support Of Dalilah’s Law To Protect American Families On Our Roadways

I strongly support the advancement of Dalilah’s Law, which passed the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on March 17 and now heads to the full House for a vote. This legislation is about one thing: protecting lives.

What happened to Dalilah Coleman should never have happened. A five year old child was seriously injured because someone who should not have been behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle was allowed to operate one. That is unacceptable.

Let me be clear. Driving a commercial truck is not a right. It is a responsibility, and it must be earned lawfully. Dalilah’s Law takes the same strong, common sense approach we are advancing in Florida: English only CDL testing, strict eligibility requirements, and real consequences for those who break the law. This bill ensures that every state follows the same standard and closes the dangerous gaps that put families at risk.

No more loopholes. No more excuses. No compromises on safety.

As Tax Collector, my responsibility is to administer services with integrity, follow the law, and protect the public’s trust. I will continue working with our state and federal partners to ensure these standards are upheld and that our roads remain safe for every family in Miami-Dade County.

Congress must act. Pass this bill. Protect our families.

Safety always comes first.

God bless Miami-Dade County, and God bless the United States of America.
