Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez today announced the approval of a measure by the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners that modernizes Local Business Tax compliance by eliminating the outdated requirement for businesses to physically display tax receipts on-site.

Sponsored by Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez, the legislation aligns County Code with current enforcement practices already in use by the Tax Collector’s Office.

“As Tax Collector, our priority is to ensure compliance while making government more efficient and responsive to the needs of our business community,” said Fernandez. “This update reflects how compliance is already verified today—through secure, real-time electronic systems—and removes an unnecessary burden on local businesses.”

The Office of the Tax Collector has implemented modern verification tools that allow inspectors to instantly confirm a business’s tax status in the field, eliminating the need for paper receipts to be posted publicly. The newly approved measure codifies this approach, ensuring that County regulations reflect the technology-driven systems already in place.

By formally removing the physical display requirement, the County is streamlining operations, reducing administrative hurdles, and improving the overall efficiency of compliance enforcement.

Fernandez commended Commissioner Bermudez for his leadership and thanked the Board of County Commissioners for its support in advancing policies that promote innovation and economic growth.
“This is another step forward in modernizing government services,” Fernandez added. “We are committed to protecting honest businesses, improving operational efficiency, and delivering better service to the residents and entrepreneurs of Miami-Dade County.”
