For the first time in Florida’s history, residents can enjoy a tax-free holiday on fishing and hunting gear, thanks to legislation approved by the Florida Legislature. This new initiative, running from September 8 to December 31, 2025, expands the state’s tax-free benefits to include outdoor essentials that support Florida’s proud traditions of fishing, hunting, and camping.
During this special tax holiday, Florida residents will not pay sales tax on a wide range of gear, such as:
Bait and fishing tackle
Fishing rods and reels
Flashlights and lanterns
Camping accessories and tents
Firearms and ammunition
And much more…
This expansion marks the first time that items essential to outdoor sports and recreation have been added to Florida’s tax-free holiday list.
By extending these savings to fishing and hunting gear, lawmakers recognized the importance of outdoor activities in Florida’s culture and economy. Families across Miami-Dade and the state can now gear up for their next trip without the added cost of sales tax, making it easier to enjoy time outdoors while supporting local sporting goods businesses.
As your Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, I am committed to keeping our community informed of every opportunity to save. This new holiday is not only a financial benefit—it also highlights the importance of recreation, conservation, and traditions that bring families together across Florida.
