A New Era of Service is Coming to Midway Crossing: Miami-Dade Tax Collector’s Office Prepares to Take Over Mall of the America's Driver License

Today marks a significant milestone for Miami-Dade County and for the continued mission to improve public service. Under the leadership of Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez, his administration is assuming control of the former Mall of the Americas Driver License Office from the Florida Highway Safety Motor Vehicle's administration. 

The office now -Midway Crossing Tax Collector Office- constitutes the fourth office transition from state to county leadership during Fernandez's tenure as Tax Collector. Each of these transitions reflects our unwavering commitment to modernizing local government and making it work more effectively for our residents.

The Midway Crossing location is one of the largest service centers in the State of Florida, but unfortunately, it has also been one of the most criticized — known for long wait times, a lack of appointments, and frustrating customer experiences. But that is about to change.

Over the past weekend, the Tax Collector team worked diligently to upgrade the office with new technology, improved software systems, recruiting and training of new staff, and administrative enhancements. These improvements are not just technical — they represent a broader strategic vision to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Midway Crossing Tax Collector Office will operate under county management and it will be a full branch office providing essential services including:

• Driver’s license renewals
• Vehicle registrations
• Property tax payments
• Local business tax services
• And more — all delivered with excellence, efficiency, and respect.

This transition would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our incredible team. The Office of the Tax Collector remains focused on expanding access, reducing bureaucracy, and bringing high-quality public service closer to the residents of Miami-Dade County. The Midway Crossing Tax Collector Office is just the latest step in our mission — and we’re just getting started.
