Pet of the Week: Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Encourages Residents to Support Shelter Pets in Need
Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez is encouraging residents to consider fostering or adopting a shelter pet and help provide loving homes for animals waiting for a second chance.
Every year, countless dogs and cats arrive at local shelters after being lost, abandoned, or separated from their families. While shelter staff and volunteers work tirelessly to care for them, many animals benefit greatly from the comfort, stability, and attention that a foster or permanent home can provide.
“Animals in our shelters deserve the opportunity to feel safe, loved, and cared for,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “Whether through adoption, fostering, volunteering, or simply helping spread awareness, every member of our community can play a role in giving these pets a brighter future.”
Fernandez highlighted the important work performed by Miami-Dade Animal Services and the dedicated teams who provide medical care, rehabilitation, and daily support for animals as they await placement with loving families. He noted that fostering can be especially valuable for pets that need time to adjust, recover, or build confidence before finding their forever homes.
As Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, Fernandez emphasized the importance of supporting community initiatives that improve quality of life for both residents and animals. He encouraged anyone considering adding a pet to their family to visit a local shelter and learn more about adoption and foster opportunities.
“Some of the most loyal companions are waiting right now in our shelters,” Fernandez said. “Together, we can help ensure more animals find the care, compassion, and loving homes they deserve.”
By opening their homes and hearts, residents can make a life-changing difference for pets in need while gaining a devoted companion in return.
